Sitting train |
|
|
The seated train is a first class overnight
train, and it has reclining seats
|
|
Useful tips about the Seated
Train |
- We will stop on at a supermarket on
the way to the station for you to buy
snacks.
- We must be at the station at 21:00,
the train can leave early and also will
not wait for us should a mishap occur on
the way
- You have 1st class seats on the
overnight seated train. You have the
most luxurious type of seats available
on the train. Seats are ‘Pullman’ style
that recline, are quite spacious with
plenty of legroom. Alternatively the
Nefetiti cabin class will be used of a
similar standard.
- Most foreign tourists and tour
companies use the overnight-seated train
it is the fastest, most convenient, most
direct route to Luxor/Aswan. (Check out
a 3rd class train, then complains).
- You need to carry all your luggage
on and off the train and are responsible
for it whilst on board.
- Luggage is stored in racks above
your head.
- Seats spin around so you can face
each other. Lock them in or you may spin
around all night
- The seated train is quite safe
compared to other trains around the
world. Though do not be careless, do not
leave valuable or small bags near the
aisle or unattended.
- Take snacks with you the food on the
train is quite ordinary. Water and
toilet paper are also needed.
- Drinks can be bought on board, soft
drink tea and coffee. Drinks have to be
paid for at the end of the journey
- Have a pillow and some warm clothes
(sleeping bag) handy as the air
conditioning seems to be on the arctic
side
- Eye patches and earplugs are useful
as the lights stay on all night and
blaring Arabic movies are sometimes
played throughout the journey. (This is
truly a bonus)
- Tickets will be inspected several
times throughout the night. Your
wonderful tour leader will keep all the
groups tickets to avoid each of you
being woken.
- Toilets on board are located at the
end of each carriage. They can be gross!
Your waste is deposited directly onto
the track below. Thus it is not a good
idea to use the toilet whilst stopped at
a station.
- Under no circumstances get off the
train – you may not be allowed to
re-board and we will never see you
again.
- Don’t be surprised if a man wanders
up and down the isle yelling ‘shay,
shay, shay!’ at 3.00am in the morning.
He is selling tea, you may want some!
- No alcohol – is allowed in a public
place, remember to this is a Muslim
country
- Smoking is not allowed in the
carriage. Smoking is officially not
allowed at the end of the carriage
either, but you are unofficially
allowed.
- You will be woken approximately
1hour before we arrive at Luxor/Aswan,
get yourself organized and be ready to
leave the train promptly, with all of
your belongings.
- At the station, we maybe bombarded
with porters wanting to carry your
luggage. Please do not let them take
your luggage; let your tour leader deal
with this.
